Arc Lamps
An arc lamp is a type of floor lamp that is perfect for placing next to a lounge chair or alongside a seating area. It is particularly suitable for rooms without ceiling lighting. Thanks to its often generous size, the arc lamp leans in over the wall and provides a pleasant, subdued light.
At Nordiska Galleriet you will find a curated selection of arc lamps from Scandinavian as well as British and Southern European brands. Perhaps the most iconic floor lamp of them all is Arco, designed by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni in 1962. Like many of the other lamps in our range, the idea behind Arco was to create a lamp that was mobile and not in the wall. Arco is considered by many to be one of the most iconic design classics of the mid-20th century. The lamp has appeared in many contexts, not least in popular culture such as the 1971 James Bond film Diamonds Are Forever starring Sean Connery and the 1960s TV series Mad Men. Another classic is the glamorous Coupé 3320 designed by the famous Italian designer Joe Colombo. Launched in 1967, the lamp is considered by many to be a design classic, underlined by its inclusion in the permanent collections of MoMA and the Neue Sammlung Museum. Another lamp worth mentioning in these contexts is the newcomer, Vertigo Nova. The floor lamp is an updated version of the now-classic Vertigo ceiling lamp designed by Constance Guisset for the French Petite Friture. With its swooping, hat-like shade, it leaves no one indifferent.
