Klint Armchair from Danish Fredericia Furniture is an armchair designed in 1936 by Kaare Klint as a modern interpretation of the traditional English Country Chair. The model is characterized by a high back and carefully balanced ergonomics, designed to function both as a dining chair and as a free-standing piece of furniture. It exudes classic elegance and is an expression of craftsmanship.
The chair reflects Kaare Klint's functionalist view of furniture design, where precision, function, craftsmanship and respect for natural resources were central principles. Klint helped found the furniture design department at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 1924 and laid the foundation for the Danish design tradition that later influenced designers such as Børge Mogensen. Unlike the Bauhaus school's focus on the future, Klint's work was based on established furniture types that were refined and modernized based on function and use. This chair is an example of this approach, where a traditional chair type has been processed through proportions and ergonomics.
