Riviera is a multifunctional outdoor piece from Fritz Hansen in Denmark, designed by Danish designer Povl B. Eskildsen in 1991. It is part of the Riviera collection, characterised by a simple and functional design language with a flexible construction that allows the furniture to adapt to different uses and needs.
The construction is based on slender teak slats designed to minimise material use without compromising the strength of the piece. Its adjustable form makes Riviera a versatile piece that can be used as a sun lounger, bench or coffee table. By changing its position, both its appearance and function can be altered, making it easy to adapt to different situations on a patio or terrace. For additional comfort, it can be complemented with a cushion. Povl B. Eskildsen’s design is based on the principle that form and function should work together. This is clearly expressed in Riviera, where a considered construction provides several uses within a single piece of furniture. The result is a pared-back expression in which materials, function and flexibility take centre stage.
