This is a vase set from the Finnish brand Iittala. The set is part of the Alvar Aalto Collection and was designed by Alvar Aalto. The history of the collection began in 1936 when Aalto presented his entry to the Karhula-Iittala glass design competition, where the characteristic wave shapes introduced a new expression in glass design. The asymmetrical shapes, inspired by the movements of water and the Finnish landscape, have since become an established symbol of Finnish and Scandinavian design.
The vase set consists of two glass vases in different sizes – a larger model adapted for fuller bouquets and a smaller vase for smaller flower arrangements.
All vases are manufactured at the Iittala glassworks in Finland through a multi-step process where the glass is mouth-blown, hand-cut and polished in several stages. Each vase thus has an individual expression. The transparency of the material highlights the organic shapes and makes the vases both functional objects and decorative elements in the home. The vases are made of glass and are recommended for hand washing.
