Saarinen- Knoll

Eero Saarinen's Saarinen series, launched by Knoll in the mid-1950s, is a collection of tables and chairs with organic forms and a central pedestal base. The series was developed to create a more open expression in the room by replacing traditional legs with a single base. It includes, among others, the Tulip Chair, Conference Chair, and various types of tables.

Saarinen - Knoll

Eero Saarinen's ambition was to eliminate the visual clutter of legs under tables and chairs. He therefore developed a series of furniture with a single central pedestal base. This construction provides a sense of space and lightness in the room, contributing to an open interior. The series includes dining tables, coffee tables, side tables, and chairs, all adhering to the same unified design principle. The bases are made of cast aluminum, often with a white or black Rilsan coating. This surface treatment provides a durable and matte finish that resists scratches and wear from daily use.

The tabletops are available in various materials such as marble and laminate. Marble, such as Carrara or Arabescato, offers natural veining and a polished surface that reflects light. This surface requires regular maintenance to preserve its luster and prevent stains. Laminate tops provide a smooth, durable, and easy-to-clean surface, suitable for intensive use in both homes and public environments.

Variants and Functional Use

The Saarinen collection consists of furniture designed for various functions and rooms. The Tulip Chairs are available with or without armrests and with a swivel base. The collection also includes the Conference Chair, which in this case is upholstered in velvet.

The tables are available in round and oval shapes and in several sizes, from smaller side tables to larger dining tables. The furniture's simple lines and functional design allow them to be placed freely in the room without creating visual obstructions. The collection is designed so that the pieces complement each other and contribute to a cohesive interior.
