Monet / Rothko is an art book published in conjunction with an exhibition at the Musée des Impressionnismes Giverny. The book explores the connection between Claude Monet's late impressionism and Mark Rothko's color field painting and offers a new way of understanding their respective pictorial worlds. Although their works were created almost fifty years apart, they show clear points of contact in how color, light and perception are treated. Monet's landscapes capture impressions directly from nature, while Rothko's compositions lead the viewer into a deeper, emotional state. Through techniques such as superimposition, dissolution and color amplification, both artists demonstrate a willingness to push the boundaries of painting. The book contains sixty works, reproduced in a chromatically organized sequence, and is complemented by analyses by prominent art critics. Together, they provide an in-depth understanding of two artists who have redefined our view of modern art and abstraction.
