The Philips brand was founded in 1891 by Gerard Philips in Eindhoven in the Netherlands. Philips’ first products were light bulbs, and today the brand is one of the world’s leading producers of light bulbs. In the late 1920s, the company expanded its range to include radios, televisions and the world’s first electric shaver, Philishave, which became a best seller.

In the coming years, the range was expanded with several new consumer electronics products such as the compact cassette and the world’s first VCR, video player. Together with Sony, the company continued to collaborate on new innovations such as MultiMedia Compact Disc and Super Density Disc, resulting in the world’s first DVD player. Philips’ first factory is now a museum, showing the long journey of the brand and the role of technology in society.

Philips products are designed in Amsterdam, Singapore, Shanghai, and Bangalore, among other places.
