Halley is a desk lamp from Stilnovo, designed by Richard Sapper in 2023, with a construction developed to provide extensive freedom of movement across the work surface. The lamp’s orbital structure allows the light source to move in three dimensions while the fixture remains in place. Its form is based on the need for precise and easily accessible task lighting on a desk where space is often shared with books, documents and technical equipment.
The construction consists of six joints, each offering 360-degree rotation. This gives Halley an exceptionally flexible reach and allows the lamp head to be repositioned with one hand. A sphere acts as a counterweight to the fixture and contributes to stability throughout its movement. The triangular base is designed to fit into a corner of the desk, leaving the work surface in front of the user unobstructed. The combination of the articulated arm, balancing sphere and compact base gives the desk lamp a distinctly technical expression in which construction and function are closely interconnected.
