Fledermaus is a chair from the Austrian brand Wittmann. Designed by Josef Hoffmann in 1907 for the Fledermaus cabaret in Vienna, the model was developed as part of a larger interior design program created together with the Wiener Werkstätte. The chair was later produced by Kohn, known for its bentwood furniture, and is characterized by Hoffmann's recurring design language with wooden balls at the joints and clear linear details.
The Fledermaus Chair has a construction where horizontal backrests and footrests are balanced against the graphic silhouette, while some versions also have vertical rods running from the backrest to the leg rest. The model is made of wood and works perfectly as a dining chair or as a solitary chair. With its proportions and architectural expression, the chair fits in both classic and contemporary rooms where material and form have a place.
