The classic Chair 69 was designed by Alvar Aalto in 1935 for the Finnish furniture manufacturer Artek. Even today, it is a timeless icon and as modern now as it was then. The chair was originally designed for the library in Viipuri, Finland, which was because the designer won a competition to furnish and create a floor plan for the library. In addition to planning how the building would look, he also designed lamps and interior details that still exist today, as well as the 69 chairs.
The chair's frame has a wide base unlike many of the furniture architect's other chairs, and this is to create a higher stability and function. As in many other pieces of furniture by Alvar Aalto, you can clearly see his signature in the form of the slightly curved legs in an L.
Chair 96 is made of molded birch and is available in a variety of different color tones for the seat and back. There is also an option to have an upholstered seat for extra comfort. For requests for other designs, please contact the store and we will help you.
