The Bacchanale pendant lamp is the result of a collaboration between Ateljé Ö and Pål Rodenius on Gotland, where the lamp is both designed and manufactured. The model was originally created for the Bacchanale restaurant, from which it also takes its name.
The lamp is made from brushed aluminium and is characterised by a low, wide form. From the centre, the metal gently folds outwards, ending in an undulating edge that runs around the entire shade. The soft waves give the aluminium an almost textile-like appearance, creating a contrast between the material’s rigid character and the free movement of the form. The open shade leaves the light source visible, making it part of the lamp’s overall expression. Each Bacchanale pendant lamp is individually made by hand. The process results in subtle variations in surface and finish, while traces of the craftsmanship highlight the texture of the aluminium. The result is a simple yet distinctive construction in which material, form and production are closely interconnected.
