OS111 Begonya Pendant is a lamp from Carl Hansen, designed by Øivind Slaatto with inspiration from the shapes and structures of nature. The design is based on the characteristic pattern of the begonia flower, where organic lines and symmetrical geometry are combined in a technically advanced construction. The name Begonya is spelled with a “y” to mark the difference between the lamp and its botanical role model.
The elliptical shade is made of a light, transparent material and built around an internal aluminum frame with a warm, golden surface treatment. An intricate network of cells, slats and curves is carefully angled to filter and spread the light without dazzling. The result is a soft, diffused light downwards, while the transparent shade allows a pleasant ambient light to be spread in 360 degrees.
Each lamp is assembled by hand and joined together in 168 carefully calibrated points. The painstaking process can take up to seven hours per lamp and is an integral part of its complex construction and sculptural expression.
