Grandma Pattern 1 wool rug

Grandma Pattern 1 is a hand-knotted wool rug from the Franco-Italian brand cc-tapis. The rug was designed by Dutch artist Rop van Mierlo, founder of Wild Animals, and is part of the Grandma Patterns collection – a series that reimagines traditional tartan patterns through a spontaneous and artistic approach.

The design is based on a painting technique where color is applied to wet paper, resulting in organic fields of color and lines with uncontrolled edges. Instead of precise grids, an irregular textile mesh emerges where shape and color interact in an unpredictable whole. The rug’s high pile adds further depth to the expression and reinforces its handmade character.

Grandma Pattern 1 is crafted from natural materials and handwoven with a dense, soft texture. It approaches the idea of geometry freely, balancing playfulness with tactility – a textile interpretation of memory, checks, and patterns in motion.
