The Caboche Collection
Caboche was created in 2005 with the intention of designing a lamp that resembled a string of pearls, focusing on lightness and transparent material. The expressive, bright, and sophisticated form was an immediate success and quickly developed into one of Foscarini's best-selling series. The Caboche lamp creates a distinct expression where the transparent spheres, which surround the light source, function as prisms and softly diffuse the light into the room. This quality means that Caboche works both as functional lighting and as a design element. Foscarini has consistently focused on delivering a fixture with high technical performance.
Versions and Spatial Context
Caboche is available in a complete range of versions: as a ceiling lamp, table lamp, and wall lamp. This makes it possible to implement a uniform lighting concept in various room types, from entrances and living rooms to workspaces.
Within each category, there are also size options to match the room's proportions. The largest variant, Caboche grande, has an impressive diameter and height that makes it a natural focal point in open, voluminous spaces. Choosing a Caboche grande in a large hall or over a generous dining table ensures even and soft light without glare.
The medium size, Caboche Plus Media, offers a balance between presence and flexibility and is suitable for smaller living rooms or as a distinctive table lamp. The smallest piccola variant works well as accent lighting. The fixture is offered in transparent and grey transparent colours. Regardless of size, the light diffusion through the transparent spheres is consistent, creating a pattern that is significant for Foscarini'sCaboche.
Caboche Plus
The Caboche series has been further developed in the Caboche Plus version, which improves the original light flow and assembly. Caboche Plus uses integrated LED technology, which ensures an optimised light pattern through the transparent material. All Caboche Plus fixtures include a light source, calibrated to provide a warm white glow of 2700 K. This choice of colour temperature is intended to highlight the softness of the light and create an inviting atmosphere in the home environment. The integrated LED light source is dimmable on most models, giving the user the ability to choose and adjust the light intensity according to the current activity, from brighter general illumination to more subtle ambient lighting.
The inner screen creates a pleasant light that is reflected and diffused through the crystal-like outer spheres. An elegant ceiling rose in chromed metal is included. The material of the spheres is a transparent polymer, which contributes to the fixture's light and elegant expression. The assembly of these transparent elements is done with precision to avoid visible fixings in the new Caboche Plus version.
Patricia Urquiola and Eliana Gerotto for Foscarini
The Caboche collection, which is the result of the collaboration between the internationally acclaimed architect and designer Patricia Urquiola and industrial designer/interior designer Eliana Gerotto, is an excellent example of how two distinct design perspectives can be unified in a cohesive form. Their shared vision was to create lighting based on the idea of a visual string of pearls. Urquiolahas received several significant awards, and her projects are represented in museums and collections worldwide.
