Hans J. Wegner designed the cinema chair for Fritz Hansen in 1944. It is an armchair in a classic design with a comfortable, reversible seat cushion easy to remove. Several distinct colors of leather are available to choose from. The China chair is available in two wood types: wood beech with a matte finish, or in black painted ash.
The inspiration behind the China chair's design comes from the Chinese imperial thrones of the 17th and 18th centuries. While working on the Kina chair, Hans J. Wegner separately developed his design approach to sculptural functionalism, for which he later became a world renowned designer. The Chinese chair is an outstanding example of Wegner's skill in furniture carving and reflects his lifelong desire to understand the nature and possibilities of wood. This chair is the only Fritz Hansen chair made entirely of solid wood.
