Lilium is a chair from Fritz Hansen in Denmark, designed by BIG – Bjarke Ingels Group. The chair is part of the Lilium collection, which offers a contemporary interpretation of outdoor furniture and is designed to work just as naturally outdoors as indoors. Its design language is light and pared-back, with distinct geometric lines.
Lilium is made from teak and features an X-shaped stainless steel frame. The chair is slightly wider than a traditional dining chair, contributing to its stable construction. The open sections of the metal frame allow the seat and backrest to flex slightly when sitting down, contributing to responsive seating comfort. The seat and backrest are mounted from the front, giving the back of the chair a clean appearance without visible screws. BIG is an international studio founded by Danish architect Bjarke Ingels and works across disciplines including architecture and design. In Lilium Chair, the studio’s contemporary approach is expressed through the interplay of construction, materials and function. The chair is suitable both around the dining table and in a variety of social outdoor settings.
