45 Chair is an armchair designed by Finn Juhl that was presented in 1945 at the Copenhagen Cabinetmaker’s Guild Exhibition. in 2003 relaunched the chair by House of Finn Juhl. The comfortable chair is made of either oak or walnut and upholstered in fabric or leather. The contrast between the chair's wood frame and upholstery creates a lightness that, combined with its organic shape and sublime details, gives the chair a unique beauty.
The clean, strong, and elegant chair became something of a revolution when it was launched. The 45 Chair was one of the very first armchairs to break away from convention by freeing the bare surfaces from the chair's wooden frame. The result was an elegant chair with an innovative design that took Finn Juhl many years to develop. 45 Chair can thus be the definition of a true masterpiece and is a symbol of Finn Juhl's greatness as a designer. This chair has been called “the mother of all modern chairs” by Japanese professor and chair expert Noritsugu Oda.
