Naver Collection
When two well-established Danish furniture factories, Aksel Kjersgaard and Gramrode Møbelfabrik, merged in 1995, a new platform for Scandinavian design was created. The goal was to establish a homogeneous collection where respect for craftsmanship meets contemporary design. The brand is based on the design philosophy "The Elegance of Power," a concept indicating a balance between visual strength and structural finesse.
The name "Naver" is a historical reference to the traditional journeyman carpenters who traveled around Europe to refine their skills in exchange for room and board. This dedication to carpentry still permeates production today, where every piece of furniture is crafted in solid wood with great precision.
Material selection and construction
Production takes place exclusively in Denmark, where materials such as steel, Corian, and carefully selected wood form the foundation. The wood is selected and dried with precision to ensure the correct moisture content, which is crucial for preventing cracking and shape changes over time. A significant part of the range, such as desks and dining tables, often combines these organic materials with industrial steel details. For example, in the dining table Plank GM 3200, the solid wood top meets a steel base for a distinct expression.
Another significant element in the design process is the use of Corian, a composite material known for its durability. It is often found as a top surface on the brand's sideboards and chests of drawers, including the model AK 2730. The combination of wooden slats and white Corian creates a contrast that highlights the wood grain while protecting the surface against wear.
Significant collaborations and products
The design duo Søren Nissen and Ebbe Gehl have been central to the brand's development. Their collaboration has resulted in several of the company's most famous products. Among the seating furniture, the Tiger chair stands out, a chair constructed with a focus on natural ergonomics and back mobility. For the living room, there is the distinct coffee table Strawberry, whose organic shape breaks with rectilinear interiors.
Hans Sandgren Jakobsen has also contributed to the collection with innovative solutions. His chest of drawers Turning Boxes challenges the conventional perception of storage. The piece consists of ten drawers that can rotate individually 360 degrees, making it as much a sculptural installation as a functional storage unit.
Care instructions for solid wood
To maintain the wood's character and resilience, regular maintenance is required. Since the furniture is delivered with an oiled surface, it is recommended to repeat this treatment 2–3 times a year or as needed. The oil should be applied with a lint-free cloth and allowed to dry for 3–5 minutes before wiping off excess oil. For minor scratches, the surface can be sanded lightly along the grain with fine sandpaper (grit 220–320) before applying new oil. This maintenance ensures that your design from Naver Collection retains its quality throughout the years.
