domus 1970s is an architecture book from the German publisher Taschen that collects the highlights of domus during a transformative decade in the history of architecture and design. The magazine, founded in 1928 by Gio Ponti as a "living diary", is today one of the world's most influential publications in design and architecture. The 1970s were characterized by growing individualism, the first expressions of postmodernism and a new ecological consciousness - among other things in response to the energy crises of the time. domus depicted these changes with a clear editorial line that rewarded function, spatial clarity, intellectual rigor and aesthetic finesse. The selection includes groundbreaking projects by designers and architects such as Shiro Kuramata, Verner Panton, Joe Colombo and Richard Meier, as well as iconic buildings such as the Centre Pompidou by Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers, and modernist works by Foster Associates. The book is part of the Domus Distilled series (1928–1999), where each volume contains original layouts, covers, newly translated texts into English and an extensive index of designers and manufacturers. An invaluable reference work for anyone who wants to understand the development of design, architecture and ideas during the late 20th century.
