Goya. The Complete Prints is an art book from the German publisher Taschen. The work collects all 287 etchings and lithographs by Francisco de Goya and offers a profound insight into an artist who depicted the human condition during a Europe in upheaval.
Goya was educated in Spain and Italy and was appointed court painter to Charles IV at an early age. Through his graphic work, he combined the ideas of the Enlightenment with a sharp and often dark perspective on violence, power and superstition. The book includes individual sheets such as The Garrotted Man and Seated Giant, as well as complete series such as the satirical Caprichos, the documentary Desastres de la Guerra, the dramatic Tauromaquia and the visionary Disparates.
In addition to prints produced under the artist's own supervision, the edition contains rare proofs from unpublished series. Each image is accompanied by commentary, and the book contains essays by José Manuel Matilla and Anna Reuter that place the works in a historical and artistic context.
The book is part of New Mag's range of art books and is suitable for those who want to delve deeper into graphic prints and the history of images.
