001 Stool Black is a stool from Finnish brand Vaarnii. The stool is part of Vaarnii’s 001 series, made from solid pine, designed by Fredrik Paulsen, and now also produced in a black stain that deepens the expression without hiding the wood’s character.
Vaarnii is known for its uncompromising work with pine – a material explored in its full scope, from solid wood to veneer and heat-treated variants. The black finish is the result of an extended development process aimed at preserving the pine’s natural grain and variation. The staining brings out the wood’s texture clearly and creates a warm, subdued tone. An oil-based lacquer adds durability to the surface and seals the color.
Fredrik Paulsen’s design is brutalist in its simplicity but practical in function. Despite its substantial proportions, the 001 is easy to handle and move. As a smaller piece within the series, the stool fits well in various settings – from hallway and living room to around the dining table. The black version adds a new tone to NO GA’s collection of stools and opens up possibilities for more restrained architectural environments.
The natural surface is preserved by cleaning with a soft microfiber cloth. For routine care, only water is recommended.
