Armchair 406 is an armchair from Artek. The model was designed by Alvar Aalto in 1939 and is based on a cantilever design where shaped solid birch slats are combined with a seat made of linen fabric. The construction is designed to combine comfort with stability, while the natural materials yield in contact with the body. The armrests are made from a single piece of wood that is then divided into two parts. The method takes into account that wood changes over time and helps the armchair maintain its balance as the material ages. The seat consists of linen straps that are stretched over the frame and provide flexible support when sitting and resting.
