Jetson

The shape of the armchair is the result of Bruno Mathsson’s in-depth studies of ergonomic seating. The bowl-shaped seat and tall backrest are designed to embrace the body and provide ergonomic support for prolonged comfort. The construction includes a polyether-filled headrest, whose positioning is crucial for maintaining a proper seated posture.

The chair’s base consists of a unique rotating frame in chrome-plated steel. This base is technically advanced, featuring an auto-return function, meaning the chair rotates back to its original position when you stand up. This engineering detail is not only practical but also adds to the chair’s visual sharpness and presence in the room. Jetson has a width of 65 cm, a height of 97 cm, and a depth of 83 cm—proportions calculated to ensure a balanced and stable seating experience.

Bruno Mathsson’s methodology and legacy

Bruno Mathsson is internationally recognized for his contributions to functional architecture and furniture design. Known for experimenting with materials and production techniques, Mathsson aimed to maximize both function and form. His design methodology was grounded in concrete analyses of how materials interact with the user, always in pursuit of optimal support solutions. His focus on the natural properties of materials—translated into industrially produced furniture—made him a central figure in the evolution of the modern home.

DUX, the manufacturer behind the Jetson, upholds the high standards of craftsmanship and material quality originally set by Bruno Mathsson. The armchair is produced in Sweden, at DUX’s own factory in Sösdala, where every detail is meticulously controlled. The construction reflects a synergy between engineering and craftsmanship that defines DUX’s production ethos.

Materials and finishes

The Jetson armchair is available in various finishes, allowing it to be tailored to the room’s existing aesthetic and design. Options include upholstery in durable fabric or several types of exclusive leather. For example, black leather gives the chair a heavier and more defined character, while a lighter textile can accentuate the bowl-shaped structure with greater ease.

The ability to choose from various upholstery options ensures that the armchair can fit into different architectural contexts. Together with the matching footstool, if one chooses to include it, the Jetson from DUX creates a cohesive and inviting environment. The Jetson armchair remains a point of reference for those seeking furniture that combines formal design with ergonomic comfort.
