Carimate is a dining chair from Danish Fritz Hansen. The chair was designed in 1959 by the Italian designer and architect Vico Magistretti for the Carimate golf club north of Milan, who also gave the model its name. Magistretti worked with both furniture and architecture and is considered one of the most influential names in Italian design.
Carimate is characterized by a wooden construction with a seat made of paper string and has been reintroduced by Fritz Hansen. The combination of wooden frame and wicker seat highlights the design and materials as central parts of the chair's expression. The model was originally developed for the interior of the golf club but is designed for sitting around a dining table and can be used in both the dining room and the kitchen. Carimate has over time become a notable part of Vico Magistretti's production and represents his work with furniture where function, material and construction interact in a clearly defined form.
