Folded Colors M Bench

Folded is an upholstered bench from Spanish Nanimarquina. The bench is designed by Nani Marquina and is based on the carpet as a material and construction, but moves the textile from the floor to a piece of furniture. Form and upholstery have been developed together, where the woven surface follows the sculptural form of the bench.

The bench is upholstered in 100% Afghan wool from sheep that graze in the mountainous areas of Afghanistan. The wool is naturally wavy and has a rough structure, while the curliness of the fibers and the irregularity of the yarn create variation in the woven surface. The textile is made by hand using the kilim technique on a vertical or horizontal loom, where warp and weft are crossed without knots. The result is a thin and firm weave that integrates with the shape of the bench and makes the traditional weaving technique of the carpet part of the construction of the furniture.
