The EA 101 Aluminium Chair was designed by Charles and Ray Eames in 1958 and is part of the iconic Aluminium Group from Vitra. The chair was originally developed for a private home in Columbus, Indiana, and has since become one of the most well-known furniture classics of the 20th century.
Unlike many traditional chairs, the construction is not based on a separate seat shell. Instead, the upholstery is stretched between two aluminium side profiles, creating a flexible and slightly springy seat that adapts to the body. The EA 101 is slightly narrower, lighter and taller than several of the other models in the series.
The chair has a four-legged base in die-cast aluminium and is available in several designs with polished, chrome or powder-coated finishes. The seat and back are available in a wide selection of fabrics and leathers, making it easy to adapt the expression to different environments and interior styles.
EA 101 combines Charles and Ray Eames' characteristic technical precision with a timeless and elegant form. The result is a comfortable and versatile chair for both the dining area and other environments where design, comfort and quality are at the center.
