EA 117 is an office chair from the Swiss brand Vitra. The chair was designed by Charles and Ray Eames in 1958 and is part of the Aluminium Group – a series of work chairs with a clear architectural form and technical structure.
The desk chair is characterized by a medium-high backrest and a tilt mechanism that adapts to the user's weight. The adjustable seat height and swivel base make the chair functional in different work environments. The design is based on a taut seat and back section in fabric or leather, which provides flexible but stable support. The armrests and five-star base are made of cast aluminum. The chair fits in everything from study rooms to offices and is offered with casters adapted to different floor types.
The EA 117 is considered a modern icon and the chair was originally developed by the Eames couple for an art collector's home in Columbus, Indiana.
