Eames RE Plastic Side Chair DSX is a dining chair designed in 1950 by Charles and Ray Eames. The seat is made of plastic and comes in several different colors. It is mounted on a base consisting of four steel legs. This version is made entirely of plastic, but the DSX model is also available as a fully upholstered one. It is a stylish chair and fits several different types of dining tables.
The Eames' multifunctional Plastic Chairs were first introduced at the "Low Cost Furniture Design" design competition held at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 1950. Charles and Ray presented organically designed plastic chair seats that were combined with different bases, giving these chairs a multitude of different functions and serving different purposes.
Today, the legendary Eames RE Plastic Chairs are manufactured by Vitra, with revised design and material choices for even higher seating comfort and quality.
Since 2024, the shells of all Eames Plastic Chairs have been made from 100% recycled plastic. The recycled plastic comes from the collection of plastic packaging from German households, in the “Yellow Bag” collection program, and is of premium quality. Using recycled raw materials instead of petroleum-based primary plastic means that climate-damaging emissions are significantly reduced, just like primary energy consumption. The shell is of course recyclable at the end of its product life.
