DUX is a company that manufactures and sells high-quality beds and furniture. The story of the brand begins in 1924 when Swedish chocolate maker Efraim Ljung goes on a business trip and arrives in Chicago. Ljung checks into a small hotel, where he wakes up after a night out and asks himself: "How can a bed like this be so comfortable?”

The bed he spent the night on dispelled almost everything he's never experienced before, and, filled with curiosity, he takes his penknife and makes a careful cut in the fabric of the bed (after a quick ”discussion” with his own conscience). What Ephraim Ljung discovers makes him both curious and fascinated; the bed was almost certainly constructed of flexible steel springs. Ljung carefully sews the fabric back together, but brings the memory of what he discovered back to Sweden. Back home, he begins to focus less on the confectionery trade and more on experimenting with fabrics of varying strength and elasticity. This eventually leads to the creation of the first DUX bed with a unique technology that reacts to pressure and weight. Efraim Ljung checks into the small Chicago hotel as a chocolatiere, but checks out as a bed innovator.

Advanced technology combined with Swedish craftsmanship

The DUX company was founded in 1926, and since then the ambition has been to produce the world’s most comfortable beds. A DUX bed is the result of advanced research and technology combined with traditional Swedish craftsmanship. During the 50s and 60s, the business expanded to include the manufacture of chairs and sofas. In the 1980s, the DUXIANA store concept was also launched, which later became a chain of designer hotels. Today, DUX is represented in 22 countries and symbolizes quality, innovation, and craftsmanship all over the world. DUX means “leader” in Latin, and the spirit of leadership is what has permeated the brand since its inception. The vision of a good night’s sleep is what drives the company forward.
