Made of varnished, unpainted steel – so-called varnished raw steel – the chair has a vibrant and industrial look that can change over time. Originally designed in the late 19th century for Paris’ growing café and restaurant scene. Its smart, foldable construction made it easy for restaurateurs to avoid paying taxes on fixed outdoor furniture – and in the process created a timeless shape that lives on to this day.
