PK - Fritz Hansen

The PK series by Poul Kjærholm was introduced in 1951 with the PK25 model and is manufactured today by Fritz Hansen. With its steel and leather construction, the series is characterized by a minimalist aesthetic where proportion, function, and material are given prominence. The design language is reduced and highlights the inherent qualities of the materials.

The PK Series from Fritz Hansen – Form, Material, and Precision

The PK series is based on a consistent use of industrial materials. A continuous steel frame forms the base, providing the furniture with a light yet stable structure. The silhouette is stripped-down and works in many different environments.

Satin-brushed stainless steel provides a matte surface with low reflection, in contrast to polished steel which has a more reflective character.

Upholstery in Grace leather adds a tactile quality and develops a patina over time. The material is durable and easy to maintain. Some models are complemented with wood details in Oregon pine or black-stained ash, where Oregon pine has a warm tone and distinct grain, while black-stained ash provides a more uniform and subdued expression.

Variants within the PK Collection

The collection includes models such as PK22, PK25, and PK0 A, where each piece showcases different aspects of Kjærholm's design language. PK22 is a lounge chair with a low seat height, designed for relaxation, where a stainless steel frame supports upholstery in leather or canvas. In contrast, PK25, also known as "The Woven Chair", features a seat woven from flag halyard, providing resilient comfort and a more expressive design language. PK0 A is a curved chair in black-stained ash with red details that create a clear contrast and demonstrate Kjærholm's early work with molded wood.

The furniture works both individually and together, fitting into environments where design and comfort are prioritized.
