Col tempo, 1956-2024 Photo Book

This is a photo book from the Italian museum MAXXI in collaboration with MACK. The publication coincides with a major retrospective exhibition in Rome and presents a complete selection of Guidi's work, edited and sequenced by the artist himself in an associative and thematically rich structure. The book begins with early images from the 1950s, taken in the landscape around Cesena, where Guidi was born and is still active. This is followed by a seventy-year development through different styles, techniques and geographies – with motifs from Italy, the USA, Russia, Turkey and Portugal. Architectural studies by Carlo Scarpa, Mies van der Rohe and Le Corbusier, among others, are included, but the focus constantly returns to the down-to-earth cultural landscape of his home region of Romagna. The book contains both well-known series and previously unpublished works, including paintings, texts and notes. It shows influences from, among others, Renaissance frescoes, minimalism, pop art and semiotics, all of which have shaped one of the most complex visual languages of our time. The book is complemented by essays by Frits Gierstberg, Florian Ebner, Alessandro Coco and curators Simona Antonacci, Pippo Ciorra and Antonello Frongia.
