Togo - Lignet Roset
When Michel Ducaroy presented Togo at the furniture fair in Paris, it attracted immediate attention. The design broke with the conventions of the time by completely lacking a hard frame. Instead, the form rests on an advanced construction of polyether foam in five different densities.
This technical solution provides an ergonomic seating experience that adapts to the body, whilst the furniture retains its distinct shape over time. The upholstery, often recognised by its quilted pattern, adds both texture and character. The generous layer of polyester wadding in the seat contributes to the soft comfort for which the series is known.
Modular flexibility for different rooms
Togo is not just a single sofa but a modular system that enables a range of different configurations. The series includes several pieces such as 3-seater and 2-seater sofas, lounge chairs, a corner module, and a footstool. This allows you to build sections into a larger corner sofa or use the pieces as freestanding elements. A Togo Fireside chair works excellently as a solitary piece in a reading corner, whilst a combination of corner and seating sections creates a social area in the living room.
The Togo Medium Sofa differs slightly from the other modules as it features armrests, making it a more finished unit rather than a connectable part. For those seeking a complete interior, there is also the Togo Footstool, which complements the sofas and armchairs or serves as extra seating. The series also includes Mini Togo, a scaled-down version that retains the same material quality and expression, adapted for younger users.
The seating group can advantageously be complemented with a coffee table from carefully selected brands, including Ligne Roset, where materiality and proportions are attuned to Togo's low seat height and softly shaped expression.
Material selection and expression
The choice of material for Togo affects both the character of the furniture and how it interacts with the room, but also how the comfort is experienced in everyday life. The sofa's multi-layered foam construction provides unusually compliant seating comfort, where each section is carefully designed to support the body in a relaxed position.
Ligne Roset offers a wide selection of textiles and leathers, from Alcantara and corduroy to various leather qualities, where the materials' structure, colour tone, and tactile properties interact with the construction. The upholstery highlights Ducaroy's characteristic pleats and low silhouette, giving Togo a distinct expression that works equally well for quiet relaxation as for social gatherings, regardless of whether the room is characterised by a subdued palette or more marked colours.
A redefined seating experience from 1973
With this series, Ligne Roset has created a product that constantly finds new users. In 1973, Michel Ducaroy succeeded in capturing a shift in how we live and socialise, where formal seating was replaced by a more relaxed posture. Today, Togo is a natural part of interiors worldwide, from Paris to New York. Investing in a Togo sofa is choosing a design that unites functional engineering with a strong visual expression.
The range includes several variants in carefully selected fabrics. By combining different modules, a seating group is created that is adapted to the room's proportions and your actual needs. With careful maintenance, these are furniture pieces built for longevity. Togo unites low-key aesthetics with unusually generous comfort, which has made it an obvious reference object for the design-conscious.
