EM82 Porcelight Pendant is a lamp from Danish Carl Hansen, designed in 1982 by Erik Magnussen. With his background as a ceramist and sculptor, Magnussen focused on the properties of the material and gave traditional porcelain a modern and functional application.
The lampshade is made of white-glazed bone china, whose translucent properties contribute to an expression that changes depending on whether the lamp is on or off. In daylight, the shade appears pure white, while the porcelain filters the light when the lamp is turned on and spreads a soft, warm glow.
The stripped-down shape and precise, architectural lines give the lamp a sculptural character where material, light and function interact.
