Skagen is an outdoor table from Fritz Hansen in Denmark, designed by furniture designer and architect Mogens Holmriis. The table is part of the Skagen series, which takes its name from Denmark’s northernmost point and draws inspiration from the area’s natural landscape. The series is characterised by careful craftsmanship, elegant silhouettes and a pared-back Nordic design language.
Skagen is crafted from solid teak, a durable wood that develops a distinctive silver-grey patina over time. The construction combines stability and functionality with balanced proportions and softly finished details. Its understated expression makes the table easy to combine with both benches and chairs in an outdoor setting. Mogens Holmriis was born in Bjerringbro, Denmark, in 1955 and initially trained as a cabinetmaker in 1974 before graduating as an architect from the Aarhus School of Architecture in 1985. His longstanding interest in the properties and aesthetic possibilities of wood is clearly reflected in Skagen, where material, craftsmanship and functionality come together in a simple and carefully considered design.
