Classics - Grythyttan

The Classics series was launched in 1930 by Grythyttan Stålmöbler and designed by Artur Lindqvist. The series is characterized by a clear and functional form, a resilient construction, and material choices adapted for outdoor use. The combination of wood and steel provides a consistent expression developed for long-term use in varying environments.

Classics - Outdoor Design with Thoughtful Construction

The Classics series is based on a construction where form and function are closely interconnected. The resilient seat is central and is created through a flexible steel construction that yields under load, which affects the seating experience over time. The form is stripped down with clear lines and proportions that make the furniture easy to place in various types of outdoor environments.

The material choices differ from many standard solutions for outdoor furniture. Here, solid wood is combined with hot-dip galvanized or powder-coated steel. Hot-dip galvanized steel has a matte, somewhat varied surface that changes over time, while powder-coated steel provides a more even and covered surface. For seats and backs, wood types such as pine, oak, and teak are used, where pine has a light and treatable surface, oak a dense structure with clear grain, and teak a naturally oil-rich surface that ages to a gray tone.

Variants and Use

The series includes chairs, tables, and benches designed to work together. The A2 chair is one of the most established models and, like several other chairs in the series, is stackable, which simplifies storage and flexibility. The tables are available in various sizes and formats, making it possible to adapt the furnishing to both smaller and larger areas.

The Classics series is used in both private and public environments, where demands for durability and function are crucial. The construction allows the furniture to remain outdoors for large parts of the year. At the same time, the material choices affect how they age and are maintained, where the wood's surface changes over time while the steel frame retains its load-bearing function.

Design and Development

The series is based on a construction where wood and steel interact to meet the demands of outdoor environments. The resilient function is integrated into the design and affects both comfort and use. The assortment has evolved over time without altering the series' fundamental principles.
