EA 217 Desk Chair

EA 217 is an office chair from the Swiss brand Vitra. The chair was designed by Charles and Ray Eames in 1958 and is part of the Soft Pad Group – a further development of the Aluminum Group with softer comfort and a more generous seat profile.

The desk chair has a medium-high backrest and is equipped with a tilt mechanism that adjusts to the user's weight. The seat is height-adjustable and swivels, and the base has five wheels adapted for hard or soft floors. The chair is upholstered in fabric or leather with sewn-in polyurethane foam cushions, which gives a distinctive expression and cushioned comfort. Side profiles, armrests and footrests are made of cast aluminum. With its balanced expression, the EA 217 is suitable for both office environments and home offices.

The EA 217 is considered a modern icon and the chair was originally developed by the Eames couple for the home of an art collector in Columbus, Indiana.
