Composition 2 is a hand-knotted rug from the Franco-Italian brand cc-tapis. The rug is part of The Color of Copper collection and was designed by Korean designer Kwangho Lee. The series is inspired by the natural oxidation of copper – a process in which the metal evolves over time, forming new layers of color, from reddish brown to green patina.
Kwangho Lee has been working with copper since 2008, exploring its reactive surface as a malleable material in constant transformation. In this collection, the organic process is translated into geometric motifs and tonal variations, based on the patterns found in welded copper sheets. The rugs are handmade in Nepal through a time-intensive process that recreates the color fields and gradations in fine detail.
Composition 2 is knotted from Himalayan wool, pure silk, and aloe – three materials combined to mimic the shifting sheen of copper. The color palette is warm, saturated, and full of nuance, capturing the living surface of metal in textile form.
