In Between - &tradition

The In Between series references Scandinavian carpentry traditions, resulting in furniture with a distinct yet understated presence. The chairs in the series, such as SK1 and SK2, are constructed with a backrest and armrests, contributing to an ergonomic seating experience. Dining tables SK4 and SK11 share the same clean lines and robust construction, making them functional for both private homes and public environments.

Material choices are central to the series' expression and function. The furniture is primarily made from solid wood, often oak or walnut. Oak offers a distinct grain and a robust character, while walnut provides a darker tone and a smoother surface. Surface treatments such as oil or lacquer affect both appearance and durability. Oiled surfaces highlight the wood's natural structure and age with a patina, but require regular maintenance. Lacquered surfaces provide a more durable and easy-to-clean surface with a more uniform expression, protecting against stains and wear. Some tables are also available with marble tops.

Variants and Applications

The In Between series includes chairs in several designs, with or without upholstered seats, allowing for adaptation to various interior styles and comfort needs. Dining tables, such as SK4, are dimensioned to accommodate gatherings for meals in, for example, a dining room or kitchen.

The series also includes the SK23 coffee table, which complements the other furniture in the series. The furniture is sturdily built to withstand daily use while retaining its expression over time. Their minimalist design allows for easy integration with other furniture and interior details, contributing to a cohesive interior in living rooms or offices.

The Designer Sami Kallio

Sami Kallio is a Finnish designer based in Gothenburg, with a background in cabinetmaking. His work is based on a clear understanding of materials, construction, and industrial manufacturing.

The design is based on stripped-down expressions, precise proportions, and functional construction. Kallio starts with well-known furniture types and develops them using contemporary production methods. The result is a graphic and understated design language.

The In Between series is constructed from form-pressed veneer combined with turned solid wood. The materials are used structurally, and the construction is self-supporting. The series demonstrates how craftsmanship can be integrated into industrial production with a focus on sustainability and longevity.
