Meet Point – a classic by Jonas Bohlin

In connection with Stockholm Design Days, Ingridsdotter is relaunching the chair Point – a classic designed by Jonas Bohlin in 1985.

“I wanted to explore the relationship between the circle and the square,” says designer and interior architect Jonas Bohlin.

His chair Point moves in the borderland between functional furniture and artistic expression. With its reduced form and distinct graphic silhouette, the chair appears as much an object as a piece of seating.

Jonas Bohlin describes his work as personal and physically grounded:

– It is quite bare between me and the object. I draw by hand, at full scale. It is my body that draws the furniture – not a computer program. I believe the relationship between angles, depths and heights resides there.

This working method has followed him since the 1980s. Large sheets of paper are rolled out over tables or floors, where the forms emerge at full scale and are then developed into prototypes.

Jonas Bohlin is one of Sweden’s most influential designers and interior architects. Since his breakthrough with the concrete chair Concrete (1981), his graduation project from Konstfack, he has created furniture and environments that have become a natural part of Swedish design history. Alongside this, he has served as professor of furniture design, co-founded the Beckmans design school, and shaped some of Stockholm’s most iconic restaurants – often in close collaboration with restaurateur PG Nilsson.

It was also in these restaurant environments – Sturehof, Riche, Teatergrillen, Aira and others – that many of the pieces now produced by Ingridsdotter first took shape.
Originally designed for public spaces, they are now also available for private homes and interiors.

The furniture is manufactured locally in Sweden and produced with a clear ethical and material responsibility. The material choices are consistent: Swedish selectively harvested wood, Swedish chrome-free leather, reused metal where possible, no cold foam, and surface treatments with as low environmental impact as possible.

– The idea behind Ingridsdotter is that only objects perceived as lifetime investments should be produced, says Christine Ingridsdotter, who founded the company in 2021.

Ingridsdotter

The collaboration between Jonas Bohlin and Christine Ingridsdotter is close and ongoing – both professionally and personally. It is also about preserving a part of Swedish design history.

– Christine goes through my archives, finds drawings and photographs, and at the same time has a clear wish list of new objects. Her enthusiasm is contagious. She challenges me and steers material choices and production in an ethical direction that I deeply respect, says Jonas Bohlin.
