Ghost – Kartell
Kartell’s Ghost series represents a modern interpretation of traditional furniture forms. The design is based on clean lines and a reduced aesthetic, with transparency as a central aspect of the material choice. Chairs and stools in the series, such as the Louis Ghost and Charles Ghost, reference Baroque aesthetics while being produced in a contemporary material. The construction is moulded in a single piece, contributing to stability and durability. This manufacturing method eliminates visible joints and results in a smooth, uniform surface. The series places a clear emphasis on form, construction, and material.
Material choice and practical benefits
The primary material used in the Ghost series is polycarbonate, a thermoplastic known for its strength and clarity. It is significantly more impact-resistant than acrylic and glass, making it suitable for everyday use. The material is also UV-resistant and resists yellowing when exposed to sunlight. These properties allow for outdoor use, such as on terraces and balconies.
Care and maintenance
The surface is easy to clean with a damp cloth and requires minimal maintenance in both private and public environments. Unlike wood, which requires regular surface treatment, polycarbonate retains its finish without additional coating. Compared to metal furniture, which can be heavy and often requires powder coating to prevent corrosion, polycarbonate is lightweight and corrosion-free.
Variants and areas of use
The Ghost series includes seating furniture in several designs, including chairs, bar stools, and low stools. The Louis Ghost is an armchair made of polycarbonate, designed with references to historical furniture forms. The Charles Ghost is a round stool produced in multiple heights, suitable as a low stool or bar stool. The model is stackable, making storage easier. The series is also available in coloured and frosted finishes, in addition to the transparent version.
Kartell also offers the Viscount series, consisting of tables with a cross-shaped metal base combined with tabletops in wood veneer, as well as Multiplo, a table series in aluminium and ceramic with a more understated expression.
