The Don Furniture Collection

Don is designed by Daniel Östman, one of Sweden’s most influential interior designers, for Nordiska Galleriet (NOGA). The collection consists of a sofa and an armchair, with a focus on proportion, comfort, and a carefully curated combination of textiles.

Don is manufactured in Italy with exceptional precision and craftsmanship. The sofa features precise stitching solutions to maintain the sharpness of its lines — a crucial detail according to Östman, who frequently returns to the importance of craftsmanship in furniture design. The depth of the seat, the angle of the backrest, and the furniture’s center of gravity have been carefully balanced to create a seating experience that feels both inviting and stable.

Elegant Form, Clear Proportions, and a Curated Textile Selection

“This is not a sofa that shouts the loudest. It is elegant and understated in its expression, yet uncompromising in its execution,” says Östman. “I wanted to create a piece where the distinct form makes it possible to work with different fabric combinations in a way that truly changes the character of the furniture.”

Daniel Östman has a background in both cabinetmaking and fashion. He has designed flagship stores for brands such as Maria Nilsdotter and Jeanerica in Stockholm, but primarily works on private residences. His interiors are characterized by understated elegance, where no single piece of furniture dominates the room. “You could say that Don reflects my way of working. The exclusivity does not lie in a visual gesture, but in the tactile — how the fabrics feel, how the seams sit, how the body rests within the proportions,” says Östman.

Exceptional Precision and Craftsmanship

As an extension of his work as an interior designer, he has chosen to present Don with a specially developed collection of base fabrics and accent fabrics. By combining materials — tone-on-tone or with contrasting details — expressions are created that range from understated to playful. “The idea is to offer ready-made combinations that work — that feel confident, but not predictable. It becomes almost like a fashion collection, where each combination has its own voice,” says Östman. The fabrics are personally selected, with a focus on tactility, variation, and quality. Customers can choose between Östman’s ready-made designers’ choice combinations or create their own combinations from the base and accent textiles selected by Östman in-store.

Don is designed to work in many different types of spaces. Östman himself describes it as a “grown-up sofa,” though not in the sense of exclusivity — rather as a piece for someone who has settled into knowing what they want around them. “There is a freedom in stripping things back. That makes it even more important that the materials and proportions are of the highest standard. The expression lies in the balance, and in the choices you make.” “This is not a sofa meant to dominate a room. It simply has to be exceptionally well made — with the right proportions, the right feel, and complete control in the execution.”
