Kurage is a table lamp from Foscarini, Italy, designed by Luca Nichetto and Nendo in 2015. The design is based on a pursuit of lightness, a recurring theme reflected in the choice of materials, construction and proportions.
The thin shade is made of washi paper, carefully handcrafted by Japanese artisans. The delicate material is combined with slender ashwood legs, giving the table lamp an airy and balanced expression. The construction is reduced to just a few elements, with each part contributing to a sense of visual lightness. The name Kurage means jellyfish in Japanese, an association reflected in the lamp’s light silhouette, with the thin shade resting above the slender wooden legs. The combination of washi paper, ashwood and artisanal craftsmanship gives the Kurage table lamp a serene character in which the qualities of the materials and the simple construction take centre stage.
