Fritz Hansen's bestseller Sjuan, or Series 7, was designed by Arne Jacobsen in 1955 and is a further development of Jacobsen's classic Myran chair. Sjuan is based on the same innovative manufacturing process. The seat and backrest are created in a single pressed piece, consisting of nine layers of veneer layered with two layers of Indian cotton and pressed into its correct shape over steam. This has given Sjuan its thin and elegant shell that seemingly consists of a whole piece of wood, the backrest can also be folded down, which contributes to the high comfort. The chair is available in a range of different types of wood and colors, with a colored, clear lacquered or fully lacquered finish. A colored surface allows the natural structure and grain of the wood to remain visible, making each chair unique. With a fully lacquered surface, each chair is identical. Sjuan has neat chrome-plated legs that come in several different designs to choose from. The chair is also stackable up to twelve chairs high.
