24 Karat Blau Pendant Lamp

24 Karat Blau is a pendant light by Ingo Maurer, designed by Axel Schmid in 2005, serving both as a standalone luminaire and as the origin of a larger lighting family.

The construction consists of four acrylic shades with embedded gold leaf, mounted on a red cross made of metal and plastic. Each shade features four openings, allowing it to be suspended at different angles, either vertically or horizontally. The gold leaf is genuine and hand-beaten into an extremely thin structure, creating a subtle star-like pattern across the surface. The delicate gold layer allows short-wavelength blue light to pass through while reflecting a warm golden glow, giving the pendant light a nuanced interplay of light. The combination of the red frame, the blue point of light and the golden shades creates a distinctive yet balanced colour contrast.

The 24 Karat Blau pendant light can be expanded with the 24 Karat Blau M extension set, making it possible to create a larger and more extensive installation.
