This architecture and design book introduces Marcel Breuer's work through an overview of key projects in furniture design and architecture from the 1920s onwards.
Marcel Breuer (1902–1981) is considered one of the leading designers of modernism. As an early member of the Bauhaus school, he developed a design language that combines industrial materials with architectural clarity. His tubular steel furniture, including the Wassily chair, is a milestone in the history of 20th-century design.
The book follows Breuer's professional career from Germany to international recognition, with projects in France, Switzerland, England and the USA, among others. Particular attention is paid to his concept for binuclear housing, where the living room and sleeping area are placed in separate volumes, as well as his work on the MoMA Research House in New York.
As part of TASCHEN's monographs on architects, the book highlights how Breuer balanced materiality, scale, and function in projects ranging from small homes to large public buildings.
