Tizio is a table lamp by Artemide, Italy, designed by Richard Sapper and introduced more than 50 years ago. It is a clear example of how technical innovation can be integrated into a restrained and functional form.
The lamp is distinguished by its articulated system, which is kept in perfect balance using counterweights, making it easy to adjust with one hand. The structure serves as both the supporting framework and the electrical conductor—a solution that was revolutionary at the time of its launch. Originally developed for low-voltage halogen, Tizio has since been adapted for LED without altering its fundamental design language. Featuring an integrated transformer and a power consumption of 3.3 W, the lamp delivers a luminous flux of 191 lumens and a colour rendering index of CRI 80. The light is precise and directional, making it particularly well suited for task lighting. The Tizio table lamp has become an enduring icon within Artemide's collection and Italian design, with its balanced construction and thoughtfully engineered adjustability remaining as relevant today as ever.
