domus 1940s is an architecture book from the publisher Taschen that collects the highlights of domus during the 1940s – a decade marked by war, destruction and reconstruction. Despite the bombings in Milan, the magazine continued to be published during Gio Ponti’s absence between 1941 and 1948. The book contains articles and images on industrial design, modern furniture, prefabricated housing and American university architecture, as well as projects by architects such as Carlo Mollino, Gian Luigi Banfi, Franco Albini and Giuseppe Terragni. It also shows the post-war rise of organic design. It is part of the domus distilled series (1928–1999) and contains original material, covers, essays, new translations and an extensive index. A rich historical document of the development of architecture and design during the mid-20th century.
