Mies is a monograph from the publisher Phaidon about the German-American architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. The book is written by architectural historian Detlef Mertins and provides a comprehensive overview of Mies van der Rohe's work and world of ideas. With over 700 photographs, drawings and sketches, projects such as the Barcelona Pavilion, Villa Tugendhat and the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin are documented. The monograph follows the architect's work in both Europe and the USA, from early residential projects to major public buildings. Mertins places Mies' work in a larger context and relates them to contemporary philosophy, science and design theory. The result is an in-depth presentation of an architect whose design language has come to characterize modern architecture.
The book is part of New Mag's range of architecture books and is suitable for both professionals and readers with an interest in the history of architecture and design.
