This art book collects 120 digital drawings created by Hockney between 2009 and 2012 – all seen through the same window in his Yorkshire home. The book documents his first work with the iPhone and later the iPad as artistic tools.
When Hockney began using the iPhone as a drawing medium in 2009, new possibilities opened up in his artistry. On the bright screen, he worked directly with color, line and light – without physical mixing, just pure digital tones. With the larger format of the iPad in 2010, he was able to develop a more complex visual language and expand his repertoire. The motifs depict the changing seasons and the different times of day – from dawn and spring flowers to night light and raindrops on the windowpane. Vegetation, reflections and color shifts are captured in fleeting moments.
The book was first published in a limited artist edition and is now available in a larger, accessible XL format with high image resolution.
